Transient Module

Do you want to earn more money from your slips, moorings, docks, and floats?  List your berths with Online Mooring, and the public can find, reserve, and pay for those berths online.   Online Mooring has approximately 30,000 boaters that use our web site, and that receive our newsletter that lets people know about the harbors in our network that offer transient space.

Transient Module FAQs

How will I get started?

You provide us with information about your marina, using a spreadsheet template that we provide.  The spreadsheet contains the following sections:
  • General Information - Your contact information, how you want us to pay you, how you want us to charge our fees, and how you want us to configure the reservation request form to meet your needs.
  • Reservation Types - You provide us with information about all the different types of berths that you want to list, including the type of berth, usage restrictions (maximum length/beam/draft/height/displacement allowed, type of vessel allowed, total number of vessels and/or total length of vessels allowed),  amenities offered, check in time, check out time, min/max reservation period allowed, min/max advance notice needed for reservation, the fee for berths in that group, cancelation policy, and a listing of all berths in that group.
  • Amenities - We want to know what amenities you offer, which ones involve additional fees, and which ones you want the boater to reserve and/or pay for as part of the reservation process.
How will Online Mooring know what berths are available?

Option #1 - You let us know the dates when each berth is in use.  By doing this, we won't send you reservation requests for occupied berths  (according to the latest information you've provided us), which will minimize your work and your charges from Online Mooring.  You can provide this information to us by:
- Importing a file into our web site that lists when each berth is busy
- Typing the information into our web site

Option #2 - You provide us with comprehensive information about all the reservations in your harbor that originated outside of Online Mooring, including information about the boater, their vessel, what berth they were assigned to and when they are authorized to be there.  Like Option #1, this allows us to ensure that we only send you reservations for your available berths.  However, this additional information allows you to use our web-based marina management tools to visualize and manage assignments throughout your harbor.  There is an additional charge for this -- we charge a transaction fee for each reservation that you record in our database, even if it didn't originate with us.  You can provide this information to us by typing it in to our web site, or by importing a file.

Option #3 - You don't provide any information to us about your other reservations.  Since we won't know when each berths is available, we will indicate to boaters that space "may" be available at your marina.  They would submit their application, pay the appropriate fee, and then you would have the option of accepting or rejecting the reservation.  If you reject the application, the boater's money would be refunded, but we would still charge our transaction fee.

How will a boater make a reservation request?

Boaters make a reservation by filling out a request form at www.OnlineMooring.com.  The form indicates where they want to go, when they want to be there, the physical characteristics of their boat, and any amenities they need to have.

Online Mooring shows a list of providers (marinas, yacht clubs, municipalities) near the requested area, showing the range of costs at each provider, the amenities provided, and whether there is any availability.

Once the boater picks a provider, Online Mooring shows a listing of the different reservation types that are available at the provider, including the amenities, cost, and availability.  The boater can choose to make a reservation for one of those reservation groups.

The boater then fills out a reservation form, which is customized for each of our providers.  The provider can decide what information they require, what other information they request, what add-on amenities they can reserve, and what terms & conditions the boater needs to accept.

Online Mooring then calculates the amount due, and lets the applicant pay that fee online.  Depending on the provider location, payment can be made by debit/credit card using PayPal or Google Wallet.

How will I manage reservation requests?

Option #1.  You configure Online Mooring to automatically approve all incoming reservation requests.  This is only recommended if all of your reservations are being recorded  within the Online Mooring database.

Option #2.  We send you an e-mail containing the reservation information.  The e-mail contains links to "Approve" or "Reject" the reservation.

Option #3.  You use the harbor management capabilities of the Online Mooring web site.  This lets you see the status of all of the requests, assign where everyone will be located, see charts showing who is assigned to each location and what space is available, approve/reject requests, and send out automated e-mails as you take action on their requests.

Option #4.  You can export reservation requests from the Online Mooring website into a third-party marina management package of your choice, and use the capabilities in that product.

How will I get my money?

Boaters can pay you directly, and/or to pay their fees online to Online Mooring.  When boaters pay through Online Mooring, we immediately credits those fees to your account, and we then send you the balance in your account at the end of every month.

We can send you your funds in one of three ways:
- By check (U.S. providers only)
- By Electronic Funds Transfer (U.S. providers only).  We'll need your bank routing number (ABA number) and bank account number.
- By PayPal.  To do this, we'd need the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account.

What if I already use Marina Management software?

If you want to continue using your existing marina management software, you can:

  • Use Online Mooring as an additional sales channel, allowing boaters to request space in your harbor, and to potentially pay for that space.  Online Mooring can provide you the request in an electronic format that you can import into your marina management package.  We are committed to providing support to the larger marina management packages.
  • Use Online Mooring to provide customer-oriented capabilities (online applications, online payments, status requests, etc.) that are missing from your marina management package.  To do this, you will need to export the data out of your marina management software package into Online Mooring on a periodic basis, and import info from Online Mooring back to your marina management package.

If you would like to replace your existing marina management package with Online Mooring, we'll help you to move your data.
