Vessel Length Issues
This report totals the number of registrations, with a breakdown by the length of the vessel.
adding together all the numbers for each of the length-specific columns may NOT match the total column. When this happens you will see an asterisk next to the number in the total column.
Situation #1: We have no information in the database about the length of a vessel. In that case, we don't have enough information to know which length-specific column the registration belongs in, so we don't show it in any of the length-specific columns.
Situation #2: For Personal Watercraft, the Coast Guard report doesn't shown the length-specific columns over 26'. So, if there was a registration for a Personal Watercraft with a vessel length over 26', it would show in the total column but not in any of the length-specific columns.
Both of these situations might require database cleanup to resolve, since the USCG will reject forms when the asterisk appears.
To identify the problem registrations:
- Click the Export button on the Registration Report page (instead of the View button)
- Open the exported file in Excel. You'll see one row per registration, with the registration number in the BoatRegDocClean field.
- Sort by the LengthInFeet field. and empty values will come to the top. That'll identify registrations in Situation #1.
- Sort by the VesselClass field and LengthClass field, and scroll down to where the Vessel Class is "Personal Watercraft" and the LengthClass is "U45", "U65", or "O65". That'll identify registrations in Situation #2.
