History for
Search Reg/Doc
(history as of 10/30/2024 2:18:59 AM)
This page allows you to search for information about vessels based on their state registration number or their Coast Guard documentation number, using information available to Online Mooring from other sources besides your own Online Mooring database.
Sources of Data
- Primary sources, which are agencies that register/document vessels
- United States Coast Guard Documented Vessels, updated continually
- State of Massachusetts Registered Vessels, updated monthly (info current as of 8/12/24, loaded on 8/15/24)
- State of Rhode Island Registered Vessels, updated quarterly (info current as of 3/19/24, loaded on 3/20/24)
- State of Connecticut Registered Vessels, updated yearly (info current as of 01/15/24 loaded on 02/23/24)
- State of Maine Registered Vessels, updated continually
- Secondary sources, which are agencies that use/record information about registered/documented vessels
- Online Mooring Providers, updated on an ongoing basis
Note: we are glad to add additional sources of data to our search upon request. We have found that some primary sources are more willing to share their data with us, and some are less willing.
Entering a Registration/Documentation Number
To enter a registration number, enter the two-character state prefix followed by the number. It doesn't matter whether you use capital letters or lower-case letters, and it doesn't matter whether you put spaces in the middle of the number. If you are searching for a registered vessel from your own state, you can omit the state prefix.
To enter a documentation number, enter "US" followed by the 6 to 7 digit Coast Guard documentation number.
Search Options
Search Options
- Expiration Status. You can choose to search for any information that we have, or to look only for active information. We consider something active if the registration or documentation or Online Mooring record expires at some point in the future. If you want to search for information regardless of when it expires, check the box titled "Search Expired Information".
- Data Sources. You can choose to search for information from entities that register or document vessels, or you can choose to choose to search through all of our data sources. If you want to search through all of our data sources, check the box titled "Search Online Mooring databases". If you are looking for "official" information, do not search through the Online Mooring databases.
Search Logic
We will first search through our primary data sources for the number you've entered, limiting our search to current registrations/documentations if you chose that options. If we find the number in any of those primary sources, we will return that information to you.
If we don't find the information in our primary sources, and you indicated that you wanted to search our secondary sources also, we will search the secondary sources, limiting our search to current approvals if you chose that option.
Data Displayed
Each of our sources have data in different formats. We present that information to you in a way that is as consistent as possible with the way that Online Mooring captures information for your Online Mooring site. For example, if your application forms never ask for the vessel draft, we won't show you the vessel draft on the search results even if the data source provided that information.
To make things as clear as possible, we only show fields that have values.
Comparing Data
There is a way to compare the information on an application to the information provided by one of our primary sources of data. If the boater provided a valid current reg/doc number on their application, and the last name on the application matched the name on the registration/documentation record, the Boat Registration link on the Attachment tab will bring you to this page in "comparison mode". The information on the left side of the page is the information from our primary registration/documentation source, and the information on the right will be the information on the application, with mismatches highlighted in red.
If you'd like to update the information on an application to match with the information on the registration/documentation record, check the mismatched fields that you want to update and then click the Update button at the bottom of the page.
