Access Code

Not Rated Yet
Most Online Mooring users are allowed to do more things with their own applications than with other people's applications.  For example, members of the public are usually allowed to see the entire wait list, but are only allowed to renew their own applications.

To support this security requirement, Online Mooring needs to determine which applications belong to a user.  The most common method is for the user to enter one or more Access Codes.

Each applicant in the Online Mooring database has a separate Access Code.  "John Public" and "John Q. Public" would be separate applicants so they would have different Access Codes, even though they may actually be the same person.  An applicant can be linked to multiple applications, and in this situation entering a single Access Code would give a user access to multiple applications.

The Access Code is given by the provider to the applicant in one of two ways:

1)  By sending a Communication (letter, e-mail, text message) to the applicant.

For Providers:  In the communication text, use the mail merge field for the Access Code (#guid#), and the correct Access Code will be included.  If the communication is an e-mail, you can include the Access Code in a link so that the user doesn't have to type it, as follows:  http://my.OnlineMooring.com/HarborName/?guid=#guid#&ignore=y (don't forget to change "HarborName" in the link above to the actual harbor name used in your Online Mooring web address)

2)  Verbally.  This is only practical when giving an Access Code to a single applicant.

For Providers:  You can find the access code on the Applicant page of the application, on the Security tab.

Once the access code is entered by the user, Online Mooring remembers the access code until the web browser closes.  Closing the web browser is equivalent to logging out.

Online Mooring provides a way for any user to create an account and to login (by going to the Login page).  If the user does so, there are additional capabilities:
- Any Access Codes that the user enters before logging in, or while logged in, will be linked with the account.  When the user logs in later, Online Mooring will remember all of the Access Codes that the user had entered during previous sessions.
- If the user submits a new application while logged in, Online Mooring will automatically link the application to the account without requiring the user to enter an Access Code.
